About
OAK, Extended Halloween Days - Book Trailer

My Role:

Concept Artist, 3D Sculpter, Art Director, Video editor, Motion Graphics Designer, Post-production Editor, Animator and Environment Artist.

Project Overview:

OAK Trailer is the culmination of my animation design college degree. It showcases my passion for creating immersive environments through lighting and sets the stage for an enthralling story. Inspired by the book "OAK, Extended Halloween Days," the trailer whisks you away to a Halloweenish and fantastical world, where a treacherous wizardess embarks on a timeless adventure with her cherished feline companion.

Technical Insights:

This project pushed the boundaries of my skills. It marked my inaugural foray into the world of PBR (Physically Based Rendering). I harnessed various 3D tools, including Maya, V-Ray Next, Substance Painter, and ZBrush, to bring the narrative to life. Post-production magic happened in After Effects, and the visual concepts took shape in Photoshop.

Collaboration and Creativity:

Creating the OAK Trailer was a collaborative journey. I teamed up with a talented musical producer to craft the perfect soundtrack. I interviewed storytellers to infuse the main character's room with narrative elements, a key aspect of the story. Throughout the process, my classmates and teachers provided invaluable feedback, turning this project into a reality.

Main

Concepts

The main artistic reference for the concepts was the Art Nouveau, which was a moviment that had a revival during the '90s interior design. And also because the Art Nouveau propose of mixing architecture with natural elements aligned with the needs and story of the project.

Copper and wood were the main elements. Copper to highlight femininity, since the story has many strong female characters, and wood to highlight the nature element which relates to the magical atmosphere of the story.

Gaudí was also an inspiration for the making of the furniture and environment details (such as doorknobs, window grid and book shelves), with organic shapes in the architecture, with a bit of a gothic style.
